Tropical Depression Ramon will hit Visayas and Mindanao Areas

Less than two weeks after “Pedring” and “Quiel” battered Northern Luzon and the country's east coast, a new typhoon may be brewing.

“Ramon”, earlier an active low pressure area (ALPA) on the eastern side of Mindanao, has been upgraded to a tropical depression, making it the 18th to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this year, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

In its 10 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said that the center of the tropical depression was estimated at 600 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The tropical depression, which is slow-moving with a speed of 15kph, is expected to be 300km east southeast of Hinatuan by Tuesday morning and be at 60km east southeast of Surigao City by Wednesday. It is expected to reach Iloilo on Thursday.

“Ramon” has maximum sustained winds of 55kph and is expected to bring 5-20mm of rainfall per hour.

Pagasa is advising the public to take necessary precautions.
